James Humphrey
Hi everyone, I’m James. I’m glad to join the Artisan team! I have been an early childhood music educator for the past 15 years. I began studying piano at age five and later added guitar, trumpet and French horn. I studied music and literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a BA in English. My love of music led me to NYC, where I began the life of a freelance musician and recording artist. I headlined at Greenwich Village nightclubs, toured Japan and Holland as a solo performer, and signed a four-year songwriting contract with Sony Music, recording my original compositions at Sony recording studios in Nashville.
When my wife and I started a family, I was drawn to the children’s music scene. I began performing for children's events and teaching music at numerous preschools in NYC while also starting graduate studies in music education, learning to play more brass, woodwind and string instruments.
“Music with James” is my music program for children 4 months to 4 years old. I play guitar, piano and orchestral instruments and sing a variety of songs, drawing the children into an interactive experience that is both fun and educational. The children sing, dance, and play along with each song—shaking bells and maracas, tapping tambourines, drums, castanets and xylophones—while getting a chance to hear and touch a variety of orchestral instruments. Animal puppets, bouncing balls and a colorful parachute add to the fun.
When not playing music, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, traveling, playing chess and exploring New England.
